TreePeople Celebrates Environmental Education with 2024 Youth Summit

Over 50 years ago, TreePeople began as a testament to the power of youth and we’re continuing to harness that spirit with our environmental education programming. Through our unique framework of experiential, problem-based learning; nature stewardship; environmental equity; and green career exploration, TreePeople’s environmental education programming fosters deeper connections with the natural world and prepares participants to be change-makers in their communities.

That spirit was on display at our second annual Youth Summit where over 200 students gathered to dive deeper into environmental topics and how they could take tangible action in their own communities. Presented in partnership with the Natural History Museum, TreePeople’s Youth Summit gave students the chance to learn from and engage a who’s who of Los Angeles based environmental organizations — including Heal the Bay, Food Forward, LA Compost, Youth Climate Commission, Water for LA, Friends of Ballona Wetlands and more — as well as participate in workshops focusing on native ecology, waste and refuse, and pollution. Youth action was also front and center. Participants also shared how their schools were making a difference by coming together to start campus recycling programs, plant school pollinator gardens, attend beach clean-ups and participate in restoration projects in their local wildlands.

Are you a Los Angeles county educator looking for ways to bring nature front and center into the classroom? TreePeople’s Generation Earth staff can help! Generation Earth is an environmental education program for 6-12th grade classrooms dedicated to helping students explore waste, water and forestry topics in a fun and engaging way. We also know how powerful local actions taken by youth can be, which is why our environmental action projects foster creative, forward-thinking solutions to environmental challenges. Visit treepeople.org/generation-earth and our team will connect you with the tools and resources you need—including personal support from a project expert.
