Sustainable Spring! TreePeople’s 40th Birthday Bash, Garden Tours, DIY Workshops

Are you ready to spring into ACTION this spring? We are! And we’ve got some amazing new helpers, too: we’ve partnered with AltBuild, the Theodore Payne Foundation, Mar Vista’s Green Garden Showcase and the Water Wise Expo to bring you a whole season of learning and proactive events to save water, harvest rain, and transform L.A.’s landscape for sustainability. Here’s the full line up. We hope to see you there!

SUNDAY, MARCH 16

Although it’s already come and gone, we kicked off Sustainable Spring with The Water Wise Expo at The Mar Vista Farmers’ Market, and it was a roaring success! We shared simple water AND money saving tips alongside AltBuild Expo, Rain Barrels International, Mar Vista Community Council Green Committee‘s Green Garden Showcase, Ballona RestorationWell Water USA, and Kor Water, to name just a few. Best of all, we sold 70 rainwater harvesting barrels!

SATURDAY, APRIL 5 – SUNDAY, APRIL 6

Experience more than 40 of the city’s most beautiful and inspiring home landscapes at The 11th Annual Theodore Payne Native Plant Garden Tour. Explore the Westside on Saturday (Santa Monica to the South Bay) and go inland on Sunday (San Fernando and San Gabriel Valleys +  Downtown L.A.), and meet garden owners, designers, docents, and gardeners on both days. A wonderful opportunity to get outside, be awed by all that’s native and blooming, and collect some great inspiration for your own garden. Click here for more information and to purchase tickets.

SATURDAY, APRIL 12

Spend this Saturday morning (10 AM to 2 PM) at the AltBuild Water Expo for a FREE water conservation intensive program including guidance on lawn reduction, native plant and climate appropriate landscaping, and rainwater harvesting. Plus, our very own president and founder, Andy Lipkis, is the featured speaker and will be sharing his key insights and inspiring perspective. Not to mention that we’ll also be celebrating TreePeople’s 40th birthday, so join us for a slice of cake, too! Additional details here.

SATURDAY, APRIL 26

The 6th Annual Mar Vista Green Garden Showcase is an Earth Day celebration that provides useful information and inspiration for transforming your garden. All of the participating gardens are in one of six walkable/bike-able clusters, and this year’s gardens are highlighting sustainability features like California native/drought tolerant plantings, edibles, and water catchment systems. TreePeople will also be on hand with tree mapping and rain barrel demos. Click here to learn more.

SATURDAY, MAY 3

The Sustainable Spring raison d’etre! Come join us at TreePeople’s beautiful campus and find out everything you need to know about making your home and garden more sustainable and reducing your water bill. In one of our free, quarterly workshops, you can choose to learn how to install a rain barrel, rip out your lawn, landscape your garden with native plants, and even update your sprinkler system. Bring your gardening gloves! Get all the details and sign up here.
