In most climate models, soil porosity (i.e., open space between soil particles) is assumed to be a constant parameter that does not change with time. However, recent evidence from several studies suggests that soil porosity is, in fact, dynamic with changes being accelerated by climate change. This evidence along with implications on the water cycle will be explored and discussed.
