Eco Tours

Where’s the best place for students to learn about the importance of healthy urban forests? Outdoors, where they can experience its beauty and fascination firsthand!

Explore the wonders of the urban forest

TreePeople’s Eco-tours invite elementary and secondary school students and teachers on guided adventures through our magical urban forest in Coldwater Canyon Park. Each group embarks on a hike around our facility and trails, led by an Eco-tour educator.

Elementary Level
At a series of interactive "eco-stations," our educators help the students see, hear, feel and understand the natural cycles of a forest – how those cycles have been disrupted in our city and what they can do to help. One stop on the tour is our new La Kretz Urban Watershed Garden, an adventure in and of itself.

Students finish their Eco-tours with a new appreciation for the connections between trees, water, air and soil. They also gain a sense of empowerment, knowing they can help bring the healing power of the forest to their communities.

Secondary Level
At a series of stops, our educators engage with students to help them better understand the basic forest principles at work. They will explore how they can be applied throughout our city as sustainable solutions to some of the city’s environmental problems including storm water runoff, heat island effect, and more.

Students finish their Eco-tours with a new appreciation for the connections between trees, water, sun and cycles. They also gain a sense of empowerment, knowing they can help bring the healing power of the forest to their communities.

Teachers: Want to bring your class for an Eco-tour?

Read about our age-appropriate tours for K-1st, 2nd-5th grade groups, and 6th – 12th grade – including curriculum support, registration details and fees. We have all the information you need to plan your visit.

Unfortunately, at this time we do not have an eco-tour program available for students in Pre-K or Transitional Kindergarten (TK) classes.

What past participants have to say

Christina McNair, a teacher at Mary Immaculate School said, “Stephen was excellent! The students loved him! He presented the information in a fun way that held the students attention the entire time. They did not want the trip to end. The children retained the information and are still talking about what they learned.

Shannon Alexander of Lang Ranch Elementary School said, "We chanted David's name all the way back to the bus, he was marvelous!"

A teacher at Chatsworth Elementary said, “Cody's delivery and humor was perfect. The hands-on aspect is ideal. Cody motivated the kids and kept the tour at their level. No one lost interest at any time! He responded to the kids so wonderfully and was a wealth of information.”
