About Kenny Derieg - TreePeople's Recycling Wizard

Born and raised in Santa Monica, CA, Kenny was always drawn to the beauty of nature spending much of his time outdoors playing in the nearby beach, parks and mountains.

In his time outdoors, he began to notice the seemingly unavoidable trash pile up everywhere. He would later learn how the Los Angeles cityscape and all of its trash negatively impacts our natural ecosystems. From then on, Kenny knew that he wanted to help Mother Nature defend herself as part of his life’s work.

Earning a B.A. in Sociology from UCLA, and a Master’s Degree in Urban Sustainability from Antioch University, Kenny Derieg’s role at TreePeople allows him to utilize the skills and knowledge he has accrued to help bridge the gap between people and the natural world that surrounds them.

Educating others is the cornerstone of his work, with a focus on teaching middle and high school students all across Los Angeles County; students and teachers learn about the environment and implement projects on school campuses centered around waste reduction and helping schools organize a successful composting system -- ideally one that contributes toward a campus garden with lots of trees!
