Leading a TreePeople project is a rewarding way you can positively affect your neighborhood and community. Our Citizen Forester model gives ordinary people the extraordinary ability to improve their environment by planting and caring for trees and incorporating "forest-mimicking" technologies into their urban landscape. Your work will grow for decades and inspire countless others.
Communities are enhanced when streets are lined with trees – making them livable neighborhoods. Learn how to organize your neighborhood as a Citizen Forester by joining us for an informative workshop (see below). Or, if your neighborhood already has young trees, organize a Community Tree Care Team to ensure their long-term survival (see below).
Water is a crucial resource and there is plenty a community can do when they work together to help conserve water. Join us for an informative workshop on rainwater harvesting, (see below) where you can also learn from our expert about a rain barrel distribution in your community!
We use more than half our drinking water to maintain lawns. How we landscape plays a significant role in creating a healthy urban watershed that is a model for the entire community. Join us for a fun workshop to reduce turf and use native plants (see below). For great ideas to convert public landscapes using water-conserving plants see our sample landscape plans.

Learn how to change your garden to one that not only looks great, but also helps reduce your water bill. Do you have young trees in your community that need on-going care? Are you part of a group that is willing to be a part of making LA green by caring for trees? If so, form a TreePeople Community Tree Care Team!
Our free training helps you create a tree care plan. Once you have your plan, you and your team are ready to go. TreePeople will support your team's first event and ensure you are ready to continue to care for more trees in your community.
Rebates and Incentives (you don't have to own your home)
Your project can be affordable or even free! There are many resources available for communities. TreePeople builds relationships with agencies and community partners and retailers to make a variety of rebates and incentives available for your team. See our listings of resources for your project.
City of Los Angeles Rain Barrel Rebates
Through the DWP and MWD, you can get up to a $75 rebate for up to 4 rain barrels. Looking to go bigger? Get a cistern! Rebates are available-- $300 for each cistern bought.
The MWD is no longer offering sweeping incentives across the region, but there are still some areas that do! Click below to see if your city is still offering rebates for you to remove your turf and replaced it with native and climate-appropriate plants.
