Northeast San Fernando Valley Regional Engagement Intern

 

The Organization:  TreePeople's mission is to inspire the people of Los Angeles to take personal responsibility for the urban forest - educating, training and supporting them as they plant and care for trees and improve the neighborhoods in which they live, learn, work, and play. We work to help nature heal our cities in the neighborhoods, schools, communities and mountains of the greater Los Angeles area. Our office is located in Coldwater Canyon Park between the Los Angeles basin and the San Fernando Valley.

Description: TreePeople is at the beginning of a ten year plan to transform Los Angeles into an area that is more environmentally sustainable. One emphasis within that business plan is to deeply engage two environmentally impacted regions in Los Angeles - South LA and Northeast San Fernando Valley. The Northeast San Fernando Valley Regional Engagement Intern will assist TreePeople’s inter-departmental team with the construction of the regional team strategic plan and to develop a comprehensive assessment of the area.

Reports to:  Community Engagement Manager

Duties:

  • Work with TreePeople staff to develop a greater understanding about ongoing programs and organizations in the region.

  • Research TreePeople’s current interactions with regional contacts and organizations to understand how TreePeople’s programs can be customized to community needs.

  • With Community Engagement Manager, develop systems to ensure that TreePeople programs are being offered to groups in a coordinated manner.

  • Attend some regional events as a TreePeople representative.
     

Skills Required:

  • Strong critical thinking ability.

  • Knowledge of Salesforce or other database systems (helpful, not essential).

  • Knowledge of GIS or other mapping systems is a plus.

  • Bilingual (Spanish) is a plus.

  • Friendly with good public speaking skills.
     

Type of position:  Part-time, unpaid internship 20 hours (flex) per week. Length of internship can be customized to the candidate’s and organization’s interest.
