We are seeking a Billing Accountant to assist the Operations department. The ideal candidate is a team player and is familiar with the non-profit grant/program funding process. This position will be responsible for conducting grant invoicing and monitoring grant transactions to ensure contract compliance.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Obtain invoices and assign appropriate billing codes for correct reporting and payment.
• Prepare contract invoices, and backup documentation, monitor grant expenditures and work with program staff on maximizing grant use.
• Maintain reports for the grant billing process and prepare grant and contract invoices on a timely basis.
• Monitor budget modification timelines and assists in the preparation of budget modifications and submissions to funders as necessary.
• Communicate with fiscal contacts at funding sources for information needed and problem resolution.
• Maintain balance sheet detail and reconciliations for grants receivable and grants revenue on an ongoing basis.
• Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• 3+ years of grant or insurance billing experience.
• Proficient in using MS Office (Excel).
• Degree in Finance or Accounting preferred but not required.
• Exceptional organizational skills and a detail-oriented problem solver.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Adherence to deadlines while communicating and coordinating with Leadership and Vendors.
• Receptive to department changes and a fast learner.
• Excellent communication and writing skills.

SALARY DESCRIPTION:

TreePeople is seeking individuals interested in community forestry to join our team as a Community Forestry Associate. The Community Forestry program engages, inspires, and supports residents to take environmental action in their communities. This position will conduct various aspects of the project such as tree planting, tree maintenance, volunteer coordination, community engagement, and data collection within the Northeast Valley and surrounding communities.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Support the organization of community tree planting and tree care events with local volunteers.
• Plant and maintain 15-gallon street trees throughout the work week.
• Assist with community workshops and volunteer led events, attend site visits, and help manage and maintain TreePeople tool inventory and trucks.
• Drive a truck to transport trees and water trees throughout the work week.
• Support the participation of volunteers in urban tree planting and care events.
• Utilize and maintain tree data through TreePeople’s web-based inventory.
• Gather, monitor and track data of tree plantings through GPS and site maps to comply with funding reporting and to ensure successful implementation of tree maintenance plans.
• Participate and represent TreePeople at meetings and community events as needed.
• Maintain communication with community volunteers to carry out necessary tree maintenance until the community is self-sustaining in the stewardship of their trees.
• Other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Work demands physical energy, twisting, safe heavy lifting ability, and hand-to-eye coordination.
• Uses machines, equipment, and work tools including but not limited to shovels, breaker bars,rakes, brooms, general hand tools, lift gates, water tanks, blowers, augers.
• Must be able to carry and walk with 50 pounds for at least 50 feet.
• Must be able to lift 30 pounds.
• Must be able to load and unload 15-gallon trees from a stakebed truck.
• Must be able to enter and exit a vehicle numerous times a day.
• Must be able to withstand exposure to all kinds of weather while completing work assignments, i.e., rain, heat, sun, cold.

The Mountain Forestry Associate Program Manager works directly with the Senior Program Manager to design, implement and oversee restoration, reforestation programs and studies of Montane Forest ecosystems, in the Angeles National Forest and Los Angeles’ neighboring ranges of mountains or wildland areas, with the assistance of the Mountain Forestry Coordinators and in direct cooperation with TreePeople's partners and grantors.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Design, organize and implement one or several program(s) of restoration or reforestation activities in mountains or wildland areas to meet TreePeople's goals and grant's deliverables, schedules and budgets.
• Help recruit, train and manage the team of Mountain Forestry Coordinators, to ensure success of activities and volunteer engagement.
• Oversee all activities related to data collection, surveys and monitoring of the program overseen, in order to draft reports to funders, grantors and partners.
• Help establish, maintain and develop multiple partner relationships, including but not limited to, the US Forest Service, National Park Service, National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, Mountain Recreation Authority, National Forest Foundation, local Universities Research Departments and various non-profit partners or subcontractors.

SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assist TreePeople's development team in securing potential new funding and projects.
• Assist in volunteer recruitment strategies and train volunteers to become Reforestation Supervisors.
• Assist in developing engagement and educational material relevant to Mountain Forestry.
• Purchase materials, tools and supplies for the Program, and maintain inventory.
• Coordinate with the nursery team for needs of plant material and potential staff support.
• Represent TreePeople at donor events, or for the media.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Knowledge of local ecosystems - especially Montane Forest - and reforestation principles
• Valid California driver's license
• Natural capacity to lead a team
• Skills in public speaking and public engagement
• Available to work a 4-10 schedule including weekdays and weekend day(s)
• Background education in forestry, forest ecology, habitat conservation, natural sciences, and/or environmental science.
• Attention to detail, precision and demonstrated ability to concentrate on tasks that deliver accurate results.
• Demonstrated project management skills, including, but not limited to, budget management, time management, effective verbal, non-verbal, and written communication and ability to actively listen, receive and interpret information.
• Experience with computer applications and database management systems including but not limited to ArcGIS, Salesforce, Google Workspace, Microsoft Office

We inspire, engage, and support the community to increase the urban tree canopy and address climate threats and environmental justice in Los Angeles and across the region.

We are seeking an Eco Educator for the Natural Connections program that delivers environmental and sustainability education, family tours, and moonlight hikes to over 10,000 people each year at Coldwater Canyon Park, Salt Lake Park, Audubon Center at Debs Park, Cindy Montanez Natural Park, Rudy Ortega Park, and Stunt Ranch. The goal of the program is to connect people, especially youth, to outdoor spaces and create a more climate resilient city through the planting and care of trees; conserving, capturing and infiltrating water; creating healthy, productive soil; and more.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Deliver intentional, fun, and educational experiences to youth, community, and family groups on most weekdays.
• Deliver weekend guided tours through natural spaces for young people, community, and family groups as needed.
• Deliver evening Moonlight hikes as needed.
• Supervise, support, and lead large groups of students participating in community plantings and mountain restoration events.
• Set up stations and ensure a clean and safe space prior to student arrival.
• Provide in-class educational opportunities at schools, local libraries, and other education-centric spaces.
• Maintain all equipment, displays, and props needed to carry out Natural Connections tours, Eco-Tours, Family Tours, and Moonlight Hikes.
• Support TreePeople’s Nursery, Park Operations, Urban Forestry, and Mountain Forestry teams as needed.
• Represent TreePeople in the classroom, community, and beyond.
• Participate in Education and TreePeople All-Staff gatherings.
• Other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS

• Must be committed to environmental sustainability and social justice.
• Must have experience working with young people and adults.
• Must demonstrate flexibility, patience, and strong time management skills.
• Experience and/or education in interpretive/environmental education, and/or performing arts is preferred.
• Strong communication skills and comfort speaking to a group or to individuals.
• Must be organized, detail oriented, and punctual.
• Able to work outside for hours at a time during tree planting events, tree care events, and canvassing.
• Able to dig holes, lift heavy equipment, and planting materials, including 15-gallon shade trees, 5-gallon water buckets, and tools.
• Able to push, pull, lift, and carry up to 25 pounds.
• Able to stand and walk for long periods.
• Must have reliable transportation and be willing to drive to schools and parks all over Los Angeles County.
• Driver’s license and proof of insurance required.
• Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
• Proof of Covid-19 vaccination required.

The ideal candidate possesses a sound grasp of ecology and environmental issues, a basic understanding of effective educational methods, cross-cultural sensitivity, and a playful sense of fun.
