Generation Earth Teen Action Program

Generation Earth’s Teen Action Program supports teen groups to learn about, and then do something about, environmental issues in L.A.

Scout groups, after-school groups, eco-clubs and other youth groups are invited to participate in the program, which TreePeople runs on behalf of the Los Angeles Department of Public Works.

From awareness to action

The Teen Action Program offers two different “Action Guides” that provide teens and group leaders the information they need to:

• Learn about an environmental issue that affects life in L.A.
• Explore what is happening in their immediate environment related to that issue
• Discover helpful resources available through technology
• Take action to help solve the issue
• Consider environmental careers

Groups choose from two Action Guides: “From the Streets to the Sea,” which focuses on water pollution prevention, and “What a Waste,” concentrating on recycling and waste prevention.

How the Teen Action Program works

1. Your group registers with Generation Earth
2. Your group picks one of the two Action Guides.
3. You work together to complete a series of four activities.
4. You send in proof of completion for each activity – earning you an environmental patch or dog tag of your choice.

An annual Teen Forum brings youth groups from across Los Angeles County together to network and brainstorm environmental service projects. The Forum also provides the opportunity to share success stories about youth-led leadership efforts throughout the year.
