DROUGHT DEFENSE

With our beautiful blue skies and gorgeous sun-filled days, it is hard to feel like there is a drought emergency. The fact is, Los Angeles faces a long-term water crisis as our region is projected to continue a drying trend. The good news is, there’s so much we can do:

WE
CAN

...cut our outdoor water consumption and use that water instead on newly planted trees.
...capture the rain that does fall in rain barrels and tanks.
...plant climate-appropriate and native plants.
...volunteer and lead at tree planting and care events in our neighborhoods and local mountains.
...educate ourselves and talk to others.
...raise the money we need, especially with the help of the Betty White match.

TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE

LEARN

REPLACE YOUR LAWN WITH SUSTAINABLE LANDSCAPING

Now that we’re in the depths of the drought, LADWP is offering $3 per square foot for turf replacement. Since some 50% of our water goes to landscaping, ripping out your lawn is one of the best ways you can conserve water.

COME TO OUR DROUGHT SOLUTIONS TOUR AND NATIVE PLANT WALK

Native plant species, rain chains, drip irrigation – and what on Earth is decomposed granite? You can learn this and much more at the free, fun, and educational tour TreePeople Center for Community Forestry every Saturday at 11.  Register now.

CARING FOR TREES DURING THE DROUGHT

Depending on the species of tree and where it’s planted, trees may need some extra help during drought conditions.

COME TO A COMMUNITY SUSTAINABILITY WORKSHOP

Attend one of FREE, quarterly Community Sustainability Workshops for people ready to take on the role of making their community more sustainable.
